Meeting of the Drought Resilience Interagency & Partners (DRIP) Collaborative – July 12, 2024

Join the Department of Water Resources for the Second Drought Resilience Interagency & Partners (DRIP) Collaborative meeting of 2024. Members of the public will be able to observe the meeting and provide public comments in-person at the meeting location or remotely.

Meeting Location: California Natural Resources Agency, 715 P St, Sacramento, Room 02-302A/B (second floor)*

Remote Participation will be conducted via a Zoom platform. Members of the public who wish to listen and comment remotely during the meeting can do so by joining using the Zoom Webinar registration link.

Background

The Department of Water Resources (DWR) established a standing drought and water shortage interagency task force in coordination with the State Water Board and other relevant state agencies to facilitate proactive state planning and coordination for the pre-drought planning, emergency response, and post-drought management, consistent with Senate Bill 552 (Chaptered in 2021. The Task Force, called the Drought Resilience Interagency and Partners Collaborative (DRIP Collaborative), will serve as a public forum with state and non-state agency members to advance our drought strategies and continue building resilience to the increasingly arid conditions California faces. For more information visithttps://water.ca.gov/drip.

Meeting Objectives

Objective #1: Review and refine Part I templates for the initial eight recommendations.

Objective #2: Review opportunities to expand on additional focus areas that were previously identified by DRIP members.

10:30am Review of the Focus Areas Recommendations Process

  Review the recommendations development process for the three 2024 focus areas.

  Reflect on workgroups process in preparation for the DRIP meeting.

10:45am Drought-Relevant Data Focus Area Recommendations

  DRIP members will present and discuss the development of two recommendations as part of the Drought Relevant Data Focus Area:

  • Recommendation 1: Drought Indicators and Metrics
  • Recommendation 2: Rapid Inventory of Drought Related Tools and Resources

11:30am Drought Preparedness for Domestic Wells Focus Area Recommendations

  DRIP members will present and discuss the development of three recommendations as part of the Drought Preparedness for Domestic Wells Focus Area:

  • Recommendation 3: SB 552
  • Recommendation 4: Community Well Monitoring Program
  • Recommendation 5: Roles and Responsibilities

1:30PM Drought Definition and Narrative Focus Area Recommendations

  DRIP members will present and discuss the development of three recommendations as part of the Drought Definition Narrative Focus Area:

  • Recommendation 6: Drought Definitions White Paper
  • Recommendation 7: Communication Program
  • Recommendation 8: Drought Case Studies

2:30pm Alignment Across Recommendations

  Follow up discussion on the eight recommendations and how to best align and leverage different proposed activities.

3:00PM DRIP 2025 Focus Area Development

Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) will share information related to the 2025 proposed DRIP Focus Areas DRIP members will provide input to inform the development of problem statements for each of the focus are as applicable.
