Video: Ten Years of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA)
Department of Water Resources (DWR) recently celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA). This law was signed in 2014 by Governor Jerry Brown and has had a profound impact on groundwater use and management as nearly 85 percent of Californians rely on groundwater for some portion of their water needs. Watch California water officials and experts discuss numerous accomplishments under SGMA that have reshaped California’s groundwater management including: 250 local Groundwater Sustainability Agencies formed to bolster our water supply across the state, improved our groundwater data collection, and improved resilience to the impacts of extreme weather associated with climate change.
