DWR and State Water Resources Control Board Host SGMA Workshops
The Department of Water Resources (DWR) and the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) are hosting educational workshops in January to assist local Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs) submitting Groundwater Sustainability Plans (GSPs) for DWR evaluation. GSPs for critically over drafted basins are due by January 31, 2020.
The purpose of the workshops is to discuss the GSP evaluation and assessment process, DWR and SWRCB interaction during GSP evaluation, annual reporting requirements and process, and DWR and SWRCB assistance programs that will support GSP implementation and future GSP updates.
DWR and SWRCB staff will be available to answer questions and provide web-tool demonstrations. The workshops will be held on January 8, 2020, in Paso Robles, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and on January 9, 2020, in Clovis, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The workshops are free to attend, but to assist with planning, RSVPs are requested. Please RSVP by clicking on “RSVP for the Workshop” button on the event pages linked above.
The workshops are part of DWR’s assistance role to help local water agencies and communities implement the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA). SGMA requires high and medium priority basins to develop plans as they work toward their groundwater basin being sustainable. DWR also provides financial assistance, statewide datasets, guidance materials, technical support services, facilitation support services, and written translations services.
