Moisés Moreno-Rivera joined the Natural Resources Agency as Assistant Secretary for Equity and Environmental Justice in July 2021. In this role, Moisés will lead efforts to cultivate and embed principles of environmental justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion into the work of the Agency and its 26 member departments. Prior to this role, Moisés was the Assistant Tribal Liaison at the California Water Boards, where he led their internal Tribal Consultation Policy implementation efforts and helped establish the framework for newly designated statewide Tribal Coordinators. He also helped institute CalEPA’s Affinity Groups program — an agency-wide effort to create an equitable and inclusive community for historically underrepresented employee groups. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies from the University of Florida. In his spare time, you can find him reading at a local coffee shop, admiring and enjoying the outdoors, and spending quality time with family.
